As an Entrepreneurial Woman, Why Should I Buy Life Insurance?

Let’s get real. Purchasing life insurance is not top of mind when you are starting or running a business. You’ve got licenses, equipment, office supplies, operating expenses, payroll and dozens of other expenses to cover. But, on the other hand, as an entrepreneur, you have a lot to protect, including your business, employees, loved ones and your reputation as possibly one of the increasing number of women of color who are fueling U.S. business startup activity. An analysis from the 2016 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report, commissioned by American Express OPEN, found that women-owned firms are increasing at five times the national av erage rate, and nearly eight in 10 new women-owned firms are being launched by women of color. You go, girls! From a business perspective, small-business owners should consider purchasing several different life insurance policies as a solid financial investment. Remember Why You Started by Sharice Bradford

Everyone has various reasons why they became an entrepreneur, or started a business or chose a particular field in life.  There is something behind the decisions we make or made that led us to where we are today or where we are trying to go.  There are also times however when you want to quit, when you question your decisions and when you feel like giving up.  Don’t! Ultimately, it is important to remember why you started.  For me I always wanted more out of life.  Working the good government job was not all that this life had for me.  God wanted more for me and most importantly, I wanted more.  The road to entrepreneurship is not easy.  There are many bumps on the road.  There were times when I questioned my decisions, there were times when I was afraid of investing in myself, what if I needed that money, but ultimately, God continues to remind me that I have never failed, and that God is always there. I also had to remember why I started.  On this road to entrepreneurship

Do You Really Need to Start a Nonprofit? by Tisa Silver Canady

I meet a lot of people who say, “I want to start a non-profit.”  I encourage the spirit of giving but not every worthy cause requires creating an organization.  The process of starting a nonprofit involves more than picking a noble cause and a nice name.  You will need to get the government involved to make things official and before you go that route, you need to figure out if it is worth the investment. What does the “charity” designation mean? The charitable organization designation is granted by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).  A normal business organization is typically setup to generate profits for the benefit of its owners. On other hand a charity is setup to raise money (and not necessarily profit), for the benefit of others. The IRS designation means that your organization’s purpose is one that should benefit the public. What is the purpose? Charities benefit the public and carry benefits for their supporters, particularly the tax-exempt status and the abili

How to Lead a Dream Team: Lead by BEING … by Tamica Smith Jones

Image
It is common to think of leadership as command, control or some form of management. As a leader I think more in terms of guidance, support and influence.  There are many different leaders and I believe we get to choose our leadership style like a golfer chooses clubs.  Consequently, there is a time and place for a combination of leadership styles depending on the matter at hand and the end goal. Working with many people and organizations the past 20 years has helped me value the team approach, which offers diverse perspectives and challenges status quo.  As a director, it is critical to engage and empower others.  At the highest levels, it is more efficient to “major in the majors” or focus on matters that perhaps only you can attend.  Building a team you can trust allows you to be more effective and efficient with the ability to delegate more.  With that, today my leadership is more inclusive and experiences extraordinary success. I am privileged to lead daily by inspiring young

Feeling Stuck? My Top 6 Strategies to Go From Stuck to Unstuck by Jena Bell

Being stuck is not an option when you are stepping into your greatness, but it can be an unconscious choice you make everyday. Look around you. Do you notice unfinished projects, TO DO lists with aging items, messy working areas? What do each of these observations have  in common? Inaction and evidence that you may be mentally stuck. Being stuck doesn't always feel stuck because in your mind you are moving forward. You  generate great ideas, the journal is full, and long hours are spent studying your craft while  working diligently to get ready. You are excited and anxiously waiting for all the forces to  perfectly align so you can jump. You see things happening in your mind every day. Ask yourself one question, how long have you been waiting to jump? If you are like I was just three years ago, your response may be “awhile”. I had to be honest  and own my truth. I was mentally wrapped in feelings of not being enough. Even after 30 years of business experience, I was tell
